Poll: 71% say Palin is unqualified to be president

Poll: 71% say Palin’s unqualified to be president, The Hill, April 11, 2010, by Eric Zimmermann, quoted verbatim:

Almost three quarters of Americans, including half of Republicans, think Sarah Palin is not qualified to serve as president, according to a new Washington Post/ABC poll.

The poll also found Palin’s approval rating at a new low, with just 37% holding a favorable opinion of her. Meanwhile, 55% of respondents have an unfavorable opinion of the former Alaska Governor.

A full 71% of respodnents, including 51% of Republcians, say Palin is not ready to occupy the White House. Palin has said it would be “absurd not to consider” a 2012 bid against President Obama.

Exactly two-thirds of independents say Palin’s not qualified, along with an overhwelming 91% of Democrats.

Meanwhile, the Tea Party movement receives tepid approval from the public. 35% have a favorable view of the movement, with 40% holding an unfavorable view. A slim plurality, 45%-36%, say they agree at least somewhat with the Tea Party’s positions.

At SRLC, Steele Admits Errors, Looks Ahead

Steele Admits Errors, Looks Ahead, Politico, April 10, 2010, by Ben Smith, quoted verbatim:

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele addressed criticism of his tenure in his speech to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference today, ignoring suggestions from some advisers that he cease dwelling on criticism. Instead, Steele admitted to mistakes and asked Republicans not to be distracted by them.

Democrats are ” looking forthose distractions and lord knows I’ve provided a few,” Steele said. “They’d like nothing more than for us to start pointing fingers at me and others instead dof their radical agenda.”

“I’m the first person here to admit I’ve made mistakes,” Steele said in a low-key address to a half-full ballroom at the Riverside Hilton in New Orleans, promising — to respectful applause — to “shoulder that burden” and “move on.”

“The one mistake we cannot make this November is to lose,” Steele said.

He noted wryly earlier in his speech, “You can’t please everyone – but you can certainly make them all mad at you at the same time.”

ALSO: Steele has provoked some internal trepidation by calling an all-staff meeting at RNC headquarters Monday at 9:30 a.m., spokesman Doug Heye confirmed, but dismissed rumors that a purge was in the works.

‘So how’s that hopey, changey thing
workin’ out for ya?’

‘So how’s that hopey, changey thing workin’ out for ya?’, Daily Kos, March 30, 2010, by wikoogle, quoted verbatim:

Sarah Palin recently had this to say…

“That bumper sticker that maybe you’ll see on the next Subaru driving by — an Obama bumper sticker — you should stop the driver and say, ‘So how’s that hopey, changey thing workin’ out for ya?’”

This is my answer…

Pretty damn well actually, in just one year President Obama…

Passed Healthcare Reform (ending preexisting conditions, giving small business subsidies for providing insurance, Creating 3.2M HC-related jobs over the next 10 years, closing the medicare donut hole in drug coverage, ensuring coverage for all kids up till the age of 26, covering 32 million americans, expanding medicaid to cover the rest, all while cutting the national debt by a 100 billion dollars) – Check.

Comment by Evans Liberal Politics owner Paul Evans: actually the HCR bill reduces the national debt by 132 billion dollars in the first decade and by a whopping 1.2 trillion dollars in it’s second decade. That’s not chump change, and conservatives who bemoan the hideous cost of extending coverage to over 31 million Americans really are simply lying. It also postpones by over nine years the date at which Medicare would become insolvent.

It’s been a hell of a productive first year for him. He made good on more than 90% of what he promised while running for election. I can’t think of many presidents who accomplish that much in eight years (especially on issues as big as healthcare reform). And that’s just what I can remember. Do you guys have anything to add?

If you don’t think that list is impressive, here’s a few dozen more accomplishments in his first year that I haven’t even had the chance to read all the way thru… http://www.politifact.com/…

I would love to see someone in the media compile a more comprehensive version of this list to atleast cover all that this administration has accomplished in the past year and two months.

P.S: When exactly did posters of America’s first Black President painted in White Face become socially acceptable?

P.P.S: Why do Democrats do such a piss poor job of standing by and talking up their own accomplishments. The Republicans have no problem sticking to even ridiculous talking points like death panels and accusations of fascism. But the democrats can’t even show a chart of the actual national debt for and spending by President Bush vs. President Obama, a chart of the stock market, or a chart of monthly job losses since the recession started, in 2007. Every month, the number of jobs losses had been going up, higher and higher, month after month until a few months into Obama’s term when the taxcuts and the stimulus were implemented into law. Since then, the job loss number have been steadily going down, month after month, at nearly the exact same rate they went up. Right till this month when job losses stopped completely, and the economy has finally started to add new jobs again. The dow jones was at 6000 a year ago. Now, a year after the bailouts that successfully saved key industries, including the entire US auto industry, on the verge of failure, the dow is back up to 11,000. And companies have started reporting profits and have started hiring again. The stimulus paved the way for the recovery.

Campaigning Together, McCain and Palin Call for ‘Peaceful Revolution’

Campaigning Together, McCain and Palin
Call for ‘Peaceful Revolution’

‘Amen, Brother’: McCain and Palin Call for ‘Peaceful Revolution’, ABC News Politics, March 26, 2010, by Bret Hovell and Teddy Davis, excerpt quoted verbatim:

Sarah Palin appeared today with Sen. John McCain to urge Arizona voters to re-elect McCain and help lead a peaceful political revolution in the United States.

“There’s something going on out there, my friends, there’s something going on, and it’s a revolution,” said McCain. “It’s a peaceful revolution, but we’re going to take on this Obama Care. ”

It was the first time the two have campaigned together since the former running mates lost the 2008 presidential election.

The pair slammed what Palin called the “lame stream media” for suggesting that disgruntled conservative activists might resort to violence and damage Republican chances in November.

“Let me clear the air right now,” said Palin. “We might as well call it like we see it. In respect to the Tea Party movement, the beautiful movement, everyone here today, we are all part of that movement. . . We are all that Tea Party movement.”

McCain predicted Republicans would win big in November.

“We’re going to take it on in the courts because it’s unconstitutional. We’re going to take it on in the Senate. We’re going to take it on in the streets. We’re going to take it on in voter registration. And my friends, we’re going to take it on November the 2nd when we take control of the House and the Senate.”

McCain and Palin made their remarks at a campaign rally in Tucson, Ariz.

Sarah Palin near deal for reality show

Sarah Palin near deal for reality show

Sarah Palin near deal for reality show, © Reuters via ABC News, March 23, 2010, by James Hibberd, quoted verbatim:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Sarah Palin is close to a deal for her travelogue reality show.

unflattering photo of a scowling Sarah Palin

Sources say Discovery Communications has edged out rival A&E Networks in the bidding for the project, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” An agreement could be announced in the next few days.

It’s still undecided which network in the Discovery suite would air “Alaska,” which is being produced by Mark Burnett Productions.

Although travelogues are on-brand for the Discovery flagship, having Palin as a centerpiece also makes the show a fit for mom-friendly TLC. Clearly nature docs are still viable for the company — Discovery’s latest effort in the genre, the miniseries “Life,” just debuted to 11.8 million viewers on Sunday night.

In her numerous TV appearances, Palin has proven she can draw an audience. Yet her show won’t come cheap. The former Alaska governor’s asking price was $1.2 million per episode. A network paying anywhere close to that figure would make “Alaska” one of the most expensive nature series ever produced.

The high-definition program will be shot in a style similar to “Life” and “Planet Earth” and will feature the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate acting as a guide to the Alaskan outdoors. When it was commissioned by the BBC at a cost of $25 million, the 11-part “Planet Earth” was considered the most expensive documentary the network had ever made. Discovery Communications had no comment.

Ssenecal5000 in the comments says “Sarah” is not going to star in the miniseries, but instead will produce it, and also that the show will also be about Alaska’s people. Thus one can conclude that this news release is somewhat premature and we don’t really know the details. Dottithy suggests seriously considering not watching any network which carries a Sarah Palin reality show.

See, Palin, producer try to sell TV show about Alaska, Anchorage Daily News, March 5, 2010, by David Bower, which has more details.

** Pat Buchanan in the Miami Herald, Thursday, November 13, 2008: "The GOP needs to confront the truth: The failure of the Bush presidency lies not in a failed execution of policy but in the policies themselves and the neoconservative ideology that informed them." Yes, you read that right. (I guess since then Buchanan has “seen the darkness”, you might say, although he’s not entirely insane. Bigoted, but not insane. Not quite.

** Ed Kilgore in Thursday’s (November 13) Talking Points Memo Cafe article has a brilliant discussion of the stillborn debate within the Republican Party which, as usual, the Traditionalists seem to have won before the moderates could make any headway. Basically, the Republicans no longer control (think Congress and the Electoral college map) any territory where more moderate views are popular. The article, titled "The Anatomy of Conservative Self-Deception," should not be missed.

Palin Abandoned by Governors

** Over at Think Progress, it just came out that the RGA, the Republican Governor’s Association, has adjourned and revealed their organization’s new leadership positions and that Sarah Palin got NOTHING. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was voted RGA Chairman and the other positions were filled, but the Queen of Wasilla was a wash.

Run Sarah Run

Will Sarah Palin run in 2012? Is she a national joke? Was she the reason the Republican base was AT ALL energized in this election or were far more on-the-fence voters, Reagan Democrats and Independents so turned off that Palin caused, at least to a considerable degree, the 9 million vote plus margin of victory for Obama? What do you think? Before you make up your mind, I have this little tidbit to contribute: the CNN analysis of the Saturday Night Live version, and the real version, of part of the Palin interview with Katie Couric. Personally I think that if the Republican leadership should be so foolish as to allow Sarah Palin ANY degree of prominence in the months and years to come, they will really regret it. Hardcore right wing and fundamentalist Republicans still seem very interested in her, but the party leadership (correctly, it appear[ed] to me) seems intent on her fading into the woodwork. As a committed Democrat I think Palin prominent in the Republican Party would guarantee the 2012 election for the Democrats (oops, I guess we should shut up and let them hang themselves). Watch the video and decide for yourself:

Current (3-7-2010) comment by Evans Liberal Politics owner Paul Evans: Well, what’s changed since November 23, 2008?? It IS pretty obvious that the Republican leadership has fully embraced the far right and to a lesser extent fundamentalist positions, and is now opposing Obama tooth and nail. From this post it appears that initially after Barack Obama was elected, it was more like people such as Sarah Palin who were outside the mainstream of the Republican Party. Sadly, that isn’t true anymore. Go ahead, Republicans: run Sarah Palin for President; PLEASE, we Democrats are begging you — run Sarah Palin for President! Pretty please???

"Every company in America should be on its knees thanking Jesus for being born. Without Christmas, most American businesses would be far less profitable." — Bill O’Reilly

…and THIS, kiddies, is how the Republican leadership really feels. This is why the Republicans lost the election. Their leadership feels not humble joy of celebration at Jesus’ birth. No, they’re mainly glad they can make money off him. This is out of touch with the feelings of the American people, largely. Republicans are interested in the top one percent of the population who are wealthy enough to be worthy of their legislative attention. I guess the rest of us aren’t worth much to the G.O.P. I guess they really don’t want crack mothers and crack babies to have food and medicine.

Right?
